It’s October 1 (where has the year gone?) and the moose are particularly active this time of year. Is it because mating season starts soon? Or are they trying to boost their winter stores with the last of the foliage ahead of months of having to sustain themselves on bark? Maybe a bit of both?
We saw 9 moose this Saturday, including these 3 just outside of midtown. That’s more moose than I’ve seen all year. Thinking back, it’s also the first time I’ve seen a male, female and calf together, and we saw a similar group out in Earthquake Park later that same afternoon. It was almost like the bulls were watching over their little families.
Anyway, it’s always fun to see these big animals out and about. If there’s anyone who can shed some light on moose behavior this time of year, would love to read your comments 🙂
